Firestone tires are made by one of the oldest U.S. tire makers, Firestone Tire and Rubber Co.. The company is now owned by Bridgestone. Firestone’s early success traces to its selection by Henry Ford as supplier of tires for the Model T. The company was involved early and continues to be involved in motorsports in the U.S. and abroad. Firestone tires continue to be produced in the U.S. Depending on the line they employ such modern features as variable tread pitch for quiet operation, steel belts for stability and long wear, and silica-containing tread compounds for all-weather traction. Some Firestone-branded tires sold through discount retailers, including Walmart, are made to the retailers’ specifications and warranted to the original owner by the retailer, not Firestone.
